Note the blur in the center.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the most common retinal diseases that reduces central visual acuity, especially in older adults.
This condition, commonly known as "macular degeneration," affects the macula, the central region of the retina.
The macula is the area responsible for reading, writing, facial recognition, and seeing fine details; therefore, impairments in this area,

It directly affects the quality of life.

The disease usually begins to appear after the age of 55, and the risk increases with age.
The most important, but also modifiable, risk factor is smoking.

Early symptoms are important.

Macular degeneration progresses insidiously; often patients notice it late.

The following symptoms may be an early warning sign:

  • Blurring or darkening in the center of the field of vision

  • Straight lines appearing curved or wavy

  • Colors fading

  • Difficulty reading, writing, or recognizing faces

If these symptoms are noticed, an eye examination should be performed without delay.
Early diagnosis is the most effective way to stop vision loss.

Personalized treatment for macular degeneration.

Different treatment methods are applied depending on the type and stage of the disease:

  • In the early stages: The progression can be slowed with specific vitamin and micronutrient supplements.

  • In wet type AMD: Neovascularization and bleeding are controlled with intravitreal injections.

  • In dry type AMD: Stem cell therapy, optical aids in advanced cases, and low vision rehabilitation are used to support daily life.

Telescopic lens – an option for advanced vision loss.

In patients with severely impaired vision, special telescopic lenses implanted in the eye can improve near vision.
These lenses are not a cure for the disease, but they improve quality of life for some patients by enhancing reading and detail vision.
Suitability is determined by a detailed eye examination.
